Knowing that this list has a wide readership, I'll post details of this
non-archaeobotanical studentship here. A great opportunity to work
with one of Europe's leading ethnobotanists in an amazingly
diverse city. Queries to Andrea Pieroni, not me.

PhD Studentship
Project Title: Ethnopharmacognostic survey on the phytomedicines
and nutraceuticals traditionally used by two migrant communities
in the Bradford area
School of Pharmacy, University of Bradford
A PhD studentship is available at the School of Pharmacy from
September 2004. The project will investigate cultural adaptation
and acculturation processes, vis-=E0-vis the perception,
management
and use of plant resources, which have been traditionally used in
food contexts and healthcare in two
selected migrant communities in the Bradford area.
The project has strong focus on Ethnobotany/Ethnobiology and
Ethnopharmacy.
Background in one of these two fields or in Ethnoscience and
Botany or in Pharmacognosy and Pharmacy Practice/Social
Pharmacy/Medical Anthropology is requested.
Fluent knowledge of at least one South-Asian or Eastern European
language is desirable.
Funding covers subsistence and university fees for the research for
36 months. Due to the conditions attached to the funding, the
eligibility criteria require the successful student to be classed as
UK/"home" for the purpose of the payment of tuition fees.
Unfortunately EU students can apply, but they will only be funded
for fees, and subsistence will have to be found by the student on
his/her own.
Qualifications Required: 2:1 or better.
Supervisor: Andrea Pieroni, Lecturer in Pharmacognosy
Further details and an application form available on request.
Closing date for applications: 30th June 2003
