Applications are invited for 7 Post-doctoral Research Associate positions and 1 Graduate Research Assistant positions in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology based at St Mary's campus of Imperial College London. The Department undertakes leading interdisciplinary research on infectious diseases and is also a UNAIDS collaborating centre for the epidemiology of HIV and AIDS, a WHO collaborating centre for intestinal infections and it houses the Partnership for Child Development and the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative. The Department offers excellent research facilities and a friendly, intellectually stimulating working environment.
* Transmission dynamics and control of foot and mouth disease
3 posts at the post-doctoral level are available to work on this three-year BBSRC-funded project. They are for an infectious disease modeller (ref: 2004/MJ0508/1), a statistician (ref: 2004/MJ0508/2) and a GIS analyst/statistician (ref: 2004/MJ0508/3).
* Control policy optimisation for SARS and other emerging infections
3 posts are available for an infectious disease modeller (ref: 2004/MJ0508/4), a statistical epidemiologist (ref: 2004/MJ0508/5) and a computer programmer (ref: 2004/MJ0508/6) to work on this EC-funded three-year project. Posts 4 and 5 are at the post-doctoral level whereas Post 6 is at the graduate level.
* Assessment of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the Education Sector in Africa
This post is for a post-doctoral statistical modeller (ref: 2004/MJ0508/7) to work for the Partnership for Child Development on this project, and is for one year in the first instance, but with the option of renewal.
* Schistosomiasis Control Initiative
This post is for a post-doctoral research statistician (ref: 2004/MJ0508/8) to work for the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative providing support to six countries in sub-Saharan Africa during the implementation of National Schistosomiasis Control Programmes. This position is for one year in the first instance with a possible extension to three years.
Candidates for all posts should have an interest in infectious diseases and a strong background (at PhD level for the post-doctoral positions) in one or more of the following areas: epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, theoretical physics, computer science or population biology. Candidates for Post MJ0508 should have a BSc or MSc in a biological subject.
