We are analysing the dystocia (DS) data of Holstian with a mixed model.
The DS scores are 1,2,3,4 and 5 (five categories). in our model of analysis there are effects of calf sex, dam age, season and herd as fixed effects and hys, sire of calf (sperm) and sire of dam (maternal grand sire=mgs) as random effects. we must use relationship matrix among the random effects but hys.
We have several problem and will be glad if you help us in solving them.
1. We don't know how to deal with the categorical nature of our data that softwares send the message that there are dangerous outliers because we have in our DS scores only the mentioned five scores with mean approximately 1.1 and standard deviation nearly 0.4 . if we continue without paying attention to this message the output results are strange for example heritabillity(i. e. ratio of one of a very small variance part to the whole variance) 0.5 !!!!
2. We don't know how to compute the genetic covariance between two random effects (sperm effect and mgs effect) or the correlation between them.
Best regards
