The University of Newcastle is seeking a new professor of statistics. This
is a re-advertised position.
The statistics group currently consists of 5 full time academic staff, 7 FT PhD
students, 1 FT research masters student and a number of PT research
students. The group also jointly runs the NewStat external consulting
Our research interests are broad and fundamentally lie in time series, flexible distributions, Bayesian, MCMC methods and mixture modelling with applications in financial, econometric, spatial, health and industrial statistics. In addition, we have externally funded research links with engineering (control), environment and geography groups within the University. We also have strong internal research links with finance, psychology and education.
Our teaching includes core statistics, with a strong and growing honours program, a flexible coursework masters program
available by distance, and service teaching to business, environment,
psychology, health and biomedical science.
We are a young and enthusiastic group of mostly early career academics in the process of establishing ourselves as quality researchers and teachers.
