Three new full-time posts are required to join a multidisciplinary
research team who are following up the British 1958 birth cohort in
mid-life. These posts offer an unusual opportunity to engage with the
exploitation of a rich longitudinal dataset, in a research programme
which combines genetic epidemiology with lifecourse methods of analysis,
as applied to the development of several important conditions
(cardiovascular and respiratory disease, mental health and disorders of
vision and hearing). The postholders will be encouraged to develop their
own research interests, including methodological studies, to maximise
the scientific output from this nationwide study.
The posts will be based at St George's Hospital Medical School but with
close links to other partners, including particularly the Centre for
Paediatric Epidemiology at the Institute of Child Health, where it is
envisaged that complementary appointments will be made. At St George's
we are seeking to recruit:
1. An experienced non-clinical epidemiologist or biostatistician with
expertise in analysis of large and complex datasets. This post is
tenable for 30 months, starting in early 2005. Appointment will be made
on the RA2 or RA3 scales in the range £29,439 - £44,896 pa inc depending
on skills and experience. Please quote reference 507/04.
2. A database and website manager with experience of building and
maintaining large databases, and developing related web interfaces. This
post is tenable for 24 months, starting in early 2005. Appointment will
be made on the RA1A scale in the range £21,783 - £31,451 pa inc
depending on skills and experience. Please quote reference 508/04.
3. A junior statistician with interest in the analysis of genetic
epidemiological data. This post is tenable for 24 months, starting in
early 2005. Appointment will be made on the RA1B scale in the range
£21,783 - £23,963 pa inc depending on skills and experience. Please
