Hi Ian
Doesn't look as though anyone has replied to you so thought I would have a
go at sharing my thoughts on the matter.
The Building Cost Information Service BCIS provide cost information on works
related to the DDA. They give figures for the cost of car park surfaces in a
variety of finishes, vertical signs, cold line marking and hot line marking.
An accessible parking bay will require more space than a standard parking
bay so there is extra cost of structure if multi-storey and car park finish
(finish only if on the ground); there is the vertical sign to fix either on
the wall or on a post; the cost of marking it out which caries considerably
between cold and hot applied; the extra maintenance and monitoring surely
depends on whether the car park already has security in place and if the
accessible bay is a matter of one extra to watch. It would also depend on
its location to the security services and how they "watch" it - via camera,
foot patrols. I would have hoped that as extra cost element an accessible
parking bay was marginally different to a standard bay - but could
appreciate that if you had no parking bays and then had to provide one it
would be a cost element.
So Ian what are your thoughts on this and what scenario are you trying to
put it into?
Marcus

Subject: [ACCESSIBUILT] cost of parking spaces
Could anyone give a ball park figure on the cost of a parking space for
disabled drivers over the cost of a standard parking space. I don't just
wish for the physical cost in the extra room but the extra cost of
maintenance and monitoring as well.
