This is a huge problem in the Western Cape in South Africa, where for
years farm workers have been 'paid' using the 'tot system' - very low
wages topped up with rations of alcohol. I'm afraid I can't point you to
any specific resources, but SA Dept of Health websites may have
something, or else either of the two Cape Town universities - University
of Cape Town, and University of Stellenbosch. Have a look on google -
the enigmatically named m99m's search strategy ideas should yield some
results.
