All,
Thank you to all those who contributed many valuable factors to consider, the data protection angle will be a very important consideration.
Here is a summary of what I have assembled in terms of references from all those that contributed which may provide a valuable reference in future to other members:
1. Associations and Societies in the field of information destruction:
UK based:
The UK Security Shredding Association
http://www.ukssa.org/start.htm
British Security Industry Association
www.bsia.co.uk
Both sites have member lists and codes of practice.
Abroad
The National Association for Information Destruction (NAID)
http://www.naidonline.org/
American Society for Industrial Security
http://www.asisonline.org/
2. General considerations:
*business viability
*size and nature of their operation
*transport arrangements
*shredding security and throughput
*training of staff and nature of their employment
3. Standards
BS 7858 Code of Practice for Security Screening of Personnel Employed in a Security Environment, taking in consideration that this standard was devised before the Data Protection Act 1998.
Followed up by a site visit to help the decision making process.
Thank you once again to all that have contributed, it really has helped and has given me backgorund on this area.
Kind Regards
Mark
