Sorry about the cross posting of this response, but at least the same
message gets to everyone??....
Grahame is correct. ISO procedures regulate that Standards need to be
reviewed on a regular basis (depending on the document type either a 3 year
or 5 year cycle). The first step in this process is now beginning. During
the final comment period of ISO15489 there were a number of interesting
comments that were regarded as important to be considered as part of any
review of the published Standard. These comments have now been brought
forward for consideration and an analysis of requirements is now underway.
All I can advise at this stage is to "watch this space" until we have a
better feel for what will be included in the process....certainly, there
will be an extensive consultation and call for public comment.
Over the next few months I will endeavour to publish an update of what is
happening in the International Standards arena and post it to all relevant
lists.

I've been told by someone who would know that it is planned to be
revised. But before that revision occurs, another document is being
drawn up (by Standards Australia, I think, not ISO) that is more of a
how-to and explains some things that may be obscure to some of us. It
is planned that this may then lead to it being incorporated into the ISO
document.

Hi
Would anyone be able to let me know how many languages ISO15489 has been
translated into (ISO have told us to contact individual countries
standards
bodies - they can only supply English and French - but there are rather
too
many countries to check individually!).
Also, who publishes the different versions?
I am aware that there are translations into Dutch, German and Mandarin
Chinese, and guess that the German and Dutch versions will be produced
by
their countries standards bodies - does anyone know who produces the
Chinese version?
Also, when is the Standard likely to be revised (we're looking to buy a
licence to publish on our intranet site, there's an option to pay a
one-off
fee or annually and get updates; not much point if there is not likely
to
be a revision).
Many thanks
