Nigel, I think Groucho Marx could probably have helped us all with this
one!

I think what you are describing is an ALGAO Regional SMR Group, which
exist in other parts of England. As I understand it, these groups are
now expected to report to the main ALGAO Regional committees but do not
operate along formal lines as yet. In addition, there is the national
ALGAO SMR (HER) committee (I do not know how this group operates and the
minutes do not appear to be available - I assume it is only for those
invited to join). I would be very interested to hear from anyone who can
explain how these groups all fit together.
Outside of ALGAO there is the HER forum (still waiting to here whether
this is for England only) and the HBSMR User Group (which is for those
who have bought the Exegesis SMR software).
There may be others I am not aware of!

It's been very interesting reading these comments. In the SW, we have
formed a local group who aim to meet up 2-3 times a year depending on
subjects to be discussed and workloads. Do you have these groups in
other parts of the country as well? It does allow some useful
discussions, some of which do filter through to the whole forum, but we
can also concentrate on more local issue which may not effect other
people.

Thanks all for your replies both on and off list. Its clear I'll never
please everyone with the venue or timing of these meetings. Most
responses have been from people who have attended meetings if not
necessarily thins one, id be very interested to hear from those who
rarely or never attend. I think sending a representative to at least one
of the two meetings every year should be seen as an essential for the
management of every SMR/HER/UAD. I don't consider that this is an
unreasonable thing to suggest as it is important to bring the sector
together to discus issues and hear presentations on recent developments,
initiatives etc. Also the meetings should be seen as something which
contributes to individuals CPD, I'm sure that all the employers of HER
staff have a commitment to some form of CPD.
