Dear colleagues,
We would like to call your attention on EGU04 Session TS28: In-situ
studies of seismogenic zones: from survey and monitoring to
drilling (Nice, April 25-30). Abstract deadline is January 11.

Session TS28 In-situ studies of seismogenic zones: from survey and
monitoring to drilling
EGU04 April 25-30 Nice
Recent multi-disciplinary research has increasingly focused on processes
governing earthquake generation. Geophysical imaging, seismic source
processes, geodetics and in situ measurements are providing new results to
understand the transition from aseismic to seismic deformation. Studies of
ancient faults, possibly seismogenic, and experimental fault mechanics are
also contributing to the development of models.
Current drilling technology is capable to reach faults, onshore and
offshore, in the zone of mechanical instability. This session will provide
a forum for discussion of current hypotheses and models of seismogenesis
and active experiments and programs to test those hypotheses (e.g. San
Andreas Fault drilling, the Corinth Gulf, Nankai and Costa Rica subduction
zones). We welcome submissions on any topic studying processes related the
seismogenic zone.
