The main outstanding issue with the application profile is the question
of how to capture the format of the items in the collection.
See item 4b

This does seem to be an important piece of information to provide for
resource discovery.
The initial proposal was to use the property dc:format with a suitable
encoding scheme (probably dcterms:IMT for collections of digital items,
and some other scheme to be determined for collections of physical
items), e.g.
Collection X dc:type coltype:CollectionImage
Collection X dc:format (scheme=dcterms:IMT) "image/jpeg"
Collection X dc:format (scheme=dcterms:IMT) "image/gif"
However, I think this probably breaks the semantics of dc:format,
because these statements say that the collection itself has media-types
of "image/jpeg" and "image/gif" (and I suspect it also breaks the
semantics of IMT to say that a single resource has both these
media-types).
What we really want to say is that the collection contains _items_ that
have these media-types. To really model this correctly, I think we'd say
exactly that, using intermediate blank/anonymous nodes. But our aim has
been to try to come up with a set of attributes/properties for the
collection as a resource, without getting into the description of
related resources.
I'm not really sure what to suggest here.... We _could_ coin a
(collection-specific) property called something like "formatOfItems" or
"itemFormat", which we define to have the desired meaning ("The/A format
of the items in the collection").... That doesn't feel entirely
satisfactory, I must admit, but I'm not sure I have any better
suggestions.
Should we also try to select one or more suitable encoding scheme(s) for
this property for collections of physical objects? I suspect it may be
difficult to find a vocabulary that covers all the requirements.
Any thoughts please?
