For what its worth you could ask the planners to refuse the application
untill a basic risk assessment is submitted.... you might also think it
worthwhile at this stage to agree the clean up standards/proposed
remediation technique (in principle).
that will slow them down but not only that massivley reduce the chance of
unwanted surprises

Can any one offer a view on the following :- I have a developer intending
to build a Police Station on a former petrol filling station site, the fuel
tanks are still in situ although have been concrete slurry filled, the foot
print of the building will be on top of the tanks. The developer wants to
leave the tanks in situ and surprise surprise wants a decision yesterday.
At the moment the site is virtually derelict. I know this subject has been
discussed before , but I missed it.
