Call for Articles: Ruptures
Proposals for articles are requested on the theme of Ruptures from research students working in any area of French Studies. A one-day publication workshop will be held on Friday 30 April 2004 at the Institut Français de Londres and selected articles will be printed in the second publication of the 2001 Group*.
Possible subjects for articles include:
Ø Crises and revolutions
Ø Historical and/or political points of no return
Ø Crises in identity, individuals and states
Ø Breaking rules and traditions in linguistics, literature, and cinema Ø Going beyond in gender-oriented theories Ø Breaching the gap Ø Ruptured identities and cultures Ø Ruptures/breaks/dislocations in memory, time, or place Ø Divisions within the family Ø Textual and/or visual partings Ø Disembodiments Ø The past and the present Ø The avant-garde Ø The aftermath
Selected participants will prepare draft articles, in French or English, of no more than 5000 words to be submitted to the organizers by 26 March 2004 so that they may be distributed to other participants attending the workshop. Oral presentation and discussion of each article at the workshop on 30 April 2004 will allow for the joint creation and editing of this themed volume of articles. Presentations should last no more than 15 minutes. Participants may apply for a subsidy towards their travel expenses.

*The 2001 Group is an inter-university postgraduate community in French Studies, providing a forum for collaborative work, in-house publishing, and ideas and teaching exchange for research students and staff in French Studies. Current members are based in southern England. It is part of The Collaboration Programme in Modern Languages, funded by HEFCE under its Restructuring & Collaboration Fund; this programme was a joint bid by UCML and the Subject Centre in Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies, and consists of ten projects run by 9 HEIs & involving a total of 25 HEIs.
