The User-Centered Engineering research group of the Industrial Design
Department of Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands) offers 3
research positions (MA or PhD) in the area of
User-Centered Design
The research includes the cooperation in a 3-year application-oriented
research project. The project concerns the development of applications that
employ multimodal technology (speech recognition, computer vision) and that
should support face-to-face communication between people rather than
interfering with face-to-face communication. The positions are available
from January 1, 2004.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with a Master's or PhD who have expertise in
and experience with requirements elicitation through ethnographic studies
including observations, interviews, cultural probes and with the development
and evaluation of design guidelines on the basis of the requirements.
Applicants with experience in the domain of face-to-face collaborative
working, either in team meetings or in the classroom, will have an
advantage.
General Information
The research in the User-Centered Engineering research group focuses on
advanced interaction concepts and user-centered design methodology. It takes
a constructive approach ("research through design"). The aim is to develop
interfaces that support natural interaction, both in the context of
single-user single-system interaction and multi-user multi-system
interaction and their cross-combinations. Main research questions are what
constitutes natural interaction and how it can be realized. Topics that are
addressed are multimodal interaction, perceptive interfaces and aware
environments. The research focuses both on developing new interaction
concepts and implementing them in prototypes, as well as the connected
design and evaluation methodology.
