medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I note from today's local (Oman) press that Mel Gibson (and, presumably,
others -- though this is not stated) has recently completed making a
film called 'The Passion of Christ' which deals with the Redeemer's
final 12 hours. It has apparently stirred up some criticism in the US
among some Jewish organisations, concerning the apportioning of blame.
This interests me less than the statement that the film is in Latin and
Aramaic, with English sub-titles. We have already met Mr Gibson's brave
(-hearted) attempts at foreign languages and dialects of English.
I wonder if any list members know anything more of this film and, in
particular, the linguistic advice given, presumably, by experts (and if
so, whom?). I look forward, in any case, to comments on this list once
the fillum is released.
