Publication schemes access to official information in the 21st century.
A one day seminar 17 November 2003 at CILIP 7 Ridgmount Street London WC1E
7AE Organised by Standing Committee on Official Publications (SCOOP)
Publication schemes are an essential part of the movement towards open
government. Freedom of Information legislation in the UK now requires all
government organisations, in the widest sense, to prepare and submit, to the
appropriate Information Commissioners, schemes outlining their publishing
programmes and the availability of all their publications. For the first
time schedules of published information must be produced indicating where
and how publications may be obtained.
This seminar will investigate the development of these schemes in national,
central, regional and local government. It is hoped that the papers will
provide an overview and assess the impact on the availability, accessibility
and comprehensiveness of future bibliographic tools, indicating where and
how official publications will be located in the future.
Those who should consider attending include all information professionals,
librarians and others with a responsibility for locating and disseminating
information on, and the publications of, government and its agencies, both
nationally, regionally and locally.
