Professor Dr. Jutta Limbach, President of the Goethe-Institut:
A Constitution for the European Union
Thursday 30 October 2003, 7.30pm
Ussher Theatre, Arts Building, Trinity College, Dublin
Professor Dr Jutta Limbach, former President of the German
Constitutional Court and current President of the Goethe-Institut will
speak on Thursday, 30 October 2003 at 7.30pm in Trinity College,
Dublin, on the EU Constitution, in a lecture series entitled ‘Voices in
European Constitutionalism’.
Professor Limbach will discuss her views on the constitution as a
turning point for the EU, coming as it does at the point of enlargement
and further integration of the European community. She brings her
perspective on the internal views within the German constitutional
court system on the ratification of the constitution. Responding to
her comments will be Mr Justice Niall Fennelly, and the evening will be
chaired by Mr Justice Ronan Keane.
The lecture series aims to examine the current development of a
‘constitution’ for the European Union, by bringing together various
experts from different constitutional traditions. The series coincides
with the draft Constitutional Treaty for the European Union which is
currently under negotiation at the EU Intergovernmental Conference. The
series aims to open up dialogue on the diverse national, local and
individual interpretations of issues facing the EU.
The series is co-ordinated by the Irish Centre for European Law and the
Institute for International Integration Studies, TCD in association
with the British Council, the Goethe-Institut Dublin and various
international bodies in Dublin.
