Thank you, Andy. It was nice to meet you and other participants in the Working Group in Seattle last week.
I am doing some general research into metadata architecture. Would you or anyone else on this list be willing to share any URLs to resources regarding that topic? White papers, academic journals, etc., would be helpful.
Thank you.

Subject: DC-2003 meeting report 1
There were two meetings of the DC Architecture WG during DC2003 in
Seattle. This message and the next provide very brief summaries of the
outcomes of those meetings.
During the first meeting I presented a summary of the mailing list
discussions around my 'Abstract Model' working draft, including a revised
version of the abstract model. HTML and PPT versions of my slides are
available at:
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/metadata/dcmi/dc2003/adbstract-model/
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/metadata/dcmi/dc2003/adbstract-model/abstract-model.ppt
(These slides were also presented to the DC Usage Board meeting prior to
the conference).
There was quite a lot of discussion after my presentation about the value
of modelling in natural language vs. the use of more formalised modelling
languages. To try and summarise these discussions, it seemed to be
generally recognised that natural language modelling was useful in terms
of involving people in discussions who might otherwise be put off by
formal languages. However, it was also agreed that future formal
modelling based on RDFS, UML or something else would also be a useful
activity.
Some other issues were also discussed - for example, the meaning of
'simple DC' - but I don't think that any fundamental problems with the
newly proposed abstract model were uncovered.
What I plan to do next, hopefully over the next couple of weeks, is to
issue a new version of the Abstract Model working draft (based on the
above slides) for further discussion on the list.
