We may well replace (for one can never restore) the hedgerows grubbed out,
but nothing can be done about the archaeology that has already gone through
increasing plough erosion in all the time we have been dithering about what
to do about it. Now, how many other scheduled sites of Roman towns and forts
being ploughed away up and down the country can we apply the same treatment
