Probably come a bit late to the worm thread but in Denmark (I have
Danish family) a common name given to a boat is 'Orm'. This is an old
danish/viking word meaning not so much an earthworm as a sea serpent or
sea 'worm'. Hence Ormshead in north Wales. Probably the origin of other
'orm' and 'worm' names in Britain.
On the Treasure Revealed thread, I spent an afternoon earlier this year
filming with the BBC crew at Wanborough, trying to show what happens
when a site gets seriously looted. None of this was in the programme as
broadcast , which I found disappointing - not because I care whether I
am on the 'tele' but because the site is, and continues to be, a graphic
example of the worst side of metal detecting. There are still large
treasure hunting holes appearing from time to time, though there really
can't be anything left by now.
