medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
A couple of further suggestions:
1. To judge from hits produced by a Google search for "Alfarabi" and "happiness", examination questions and paper topics asking for a comparison of Alfarabi's _Attainment of Happiness_ and Aristotle's discussion of happiness in the _Nicomachean Ethics_ are not uncommon. The _Attainment of Happiness_ is available in English translation in Alfarabi, _Philosophy of Plato and Aristotle_, introd. by Muhsin Mahdi, new foreword by Charles E. Butterworth and Charles L. Pangle (Ithaca: Cornell Univ. Pr., 2001).
2. On the Judaic side, two names that occur immediately are those of Saadia Gaon and of Maimonides. The literature on Maimonides is so extensive that it should be fairly easy to track down his take(s) on happiness. For Saadia, a good starting point might be para. 5 in the article on him in the _Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy_:
