<< Does anyone know what specific reason (if any) one might invoke Dionysius
of
Paris? He appears as a 'weeper' or intercessor on a late fifteenth century
tomb in Kilconnell friary in Co Galway, Ireland along with Louis of Toulouse,
John the Baptist, John the Evangelist, Catherine of Alexandria, James of
Compostella, Francis of Assisi and an unidentifiable bishop saint. It is an
eclectic line up and unique in Ireland. I would certainly welcome any comments the
list members had to make on it.

(that's the way my plain-text e-mail program reads it. Margaret Cormack's
letters always come like this -
"ICAgQW5kIG9uZSBtb3JlIHF1ZXJ5IGFib3V0IFN0LiBEaW9ueXNpdXMgLSBkb2VzIGFueW9uZSBr", etc........so I don't know if she had the same
comment I have. I've given up trying to solve the problem.)
In Peter Harbison's "Guide to National and Historic Monuments of Ireland", he
identifies the weepers as "Saints Johanes (John), Lodovic (Louis), Maria,
another John, Jacoib (James) and Dinois (Denis)". Your listing includes two
additional figures, presumably the two figures up at the top of the tomb canopy.
His book was originally published in 1970. Is there more recent information
which has corrected his identifications of these figures?
