JOB TITLE: ALGAO Rural Development Policy Support Officer
LOCATION: Winchester
SALARY: Circa 22k.
This two year Association of Local Government Archaeological Officers (ALGAO) post is funded by English Heritage and will be based with the Environment Department of Hampshire County Council. The post will draw on and co-ordinate the influence and expertise within ALGAO, English Heritage and the wider heritage sector to raise the profile and enhance the integration of historic environment considerations within government's rural development initiatives.
You will contribute to the development of historic environment policy on agri-environment and rural development schemes nationally, represent ALGAO in the review, piloting and evaluation of such schemes. You will provide national scale support to English Heritage and ALGAO initiatives in this rapidly developing area of policy.
An appropriate degree or professional qualification will be supported by experience of the historic environment in agri-environment schemes. You will need to be familiar with archaeological and historic buildings data issues, as well as the associated data systems, including GIS. With a broad knowledge of the archaeology of England and the roles and relationships of the principle English archaeological organisations, you'll understand heritage legislation and of existing agri-environment schemes. You must be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post. Salary will be according to experience and qualifications
