Research Assistants (CAM in Cancer; CAM in Mental Health) – 2 posts
Salary: £22, 500 p.a. inc (Fixed term one year contract)
Based in RCCM office in Central London
Applications are invited for 2 research assistants who will be responsible, as
part of a small team, for carrying out a review and appraisal of the published
literature on complementary therapies in either cancer or mental health. This
work forms part of the NHS Priorities Project, the aims of which are:
To carry out a detailed review and critical appraisal of the published research
in specific complementary therapies, focussing on key areas of NHS priority.
To make this information available to health care professionals, researchers
and the public via the Internet.
To maintain an evidence-based information resource that reflects current
research evidence and to establish an ongoing process for updating this
information.

Applicants should have a health, social science, research or information degree
or postgraduate qualification. Excellent IT skills including word processing
and database searching skills are essential. A good understanding of the full
range of research methods applied in health care and experience of critical
appraisal are also essential. Previous experience of research, writing for
publication and an interest in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) are
desirable. Good communication skills, both oral and written, are also
important. Ideally, the applicant will have experience of research or clinical
practice in the relevant area (cancer or mental health respectively).
