Hi everyone,
I'm working on installing the EDG software on some
test machines for the QCDgrid project
(http://www.gridpp.ac.uk/qcdgrid). We have four
dedicated machines (soon to be 5), which I am
trying to configure as two CEs, one SE and a
RB/JSS/II, to get a feel for how the software
works and how to use it.
Due to our clients' wishes to use more up-to-date
versions of Red Hat (preferably 9) and possibly
even Solaris in the future, I am not able to use
the recommended installation method involving
RPMs and LCFG. Instead I have built the software
from source code. I believe I have all the necessary
packages built, but I am having problems with
configuring them.
The machines are called: qcdtest, doorstopper,
globli and pythagoras. qcdtest and doorstopper run
RH 7.2, pythagoras has 7.3, and globli 9.0. qcdtest
is the SE, pythagoras and globli are the CEs,
doorstopper is the RB/JSS.
qcdtest and pythagoras, the SE and one of the CEs,
seem to be working OK - all the services are
running without error messages, anyway. My only
concern is that 'grid-info-search' on globus MDS
seems to return a lot less info than it did before
EDG was installed, but maybe that is normal.
On globli, the other CE, I can start globus-mds and
I get 'OK', but almost immediately it stops again.
edginfo-mds starts but runs in the foreground
instead of as a daemon (I'm starting it with
'/sbin/service edginfo-mds start').
doorstopper, the RB/JSS is giving the most problems.
globus-mds is working but edginfo-mds is not. The
broker will not start, the job submission service
will start but gives quite a few error messages.
As you can see, most of my problems seem to stem
from WP3, the information services stuff. Maybe
there is someone appropriate who knows about this
specifically who I could speak to?
If you think you could help me with any of this,
let me know and I will send more details. Any
advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
James Perry
