Dear Jane
I don't have a copy of the Sussex edition, but have
found the following references in the Stewart
bibliography.
There is a reference to the poem, "The Benefactors"
that according to Stewart (434) first appeared in "The
Years Between" (Methuen, 1919). The first two stanza's
were used as a chapter heading of The Edge of the
Evening" in "A Diversity of Creatures" (1917).
In Stewart (641, 642) collected in the Sussex Edition
"Uncollected Prose, II", Vol XXX, "The Benefactors"
first appeared in National Review, American magazine,
July 1912.
As a matter of interest, Hyne and Kipling were being
published simultaneously, at least in the "Windsor
Magazine" of February 1902, with "The Elephant's
Child" and "Thompson's Progress", second series No.
III - 'Cockpit Copper-Mine' respectively.
With best regards
David Page
