Many thanks to Andy and Pete for their comments, and the others sent
off-list. There has always been a mapping to simple DC in the IMS learning
resource metadata best practice guide, and it is also there as an addendum
to the IEEE LOM Standard. I've always felt it was a bit vague, as Andy
described, and also possibly inaccurate. So in revising the IMS best
practice guide I made a first attempt at getting an idea of how the other
DC Terms would map. I found it quite illuminating, but don't think there's
much hope of getting anything complete into the next version of the best
practice guide (which should have been finished last month). I think what I
shall suggest to IMS is that we refer to the addendum in the LOM standard
but comment on the short comings of this approach and give examples of
these and how Qualified Dublin Core can give a closer match. I'm sure that
a more complete cross walk can be worked out as a seperate activity.
Please let me know if you think we could take a more helpful approach in
the IMS best practice guide.
