This year's National Archaeology Day at Chester will be held in the
There will be tours of the site led by Roman soldiers at 11.45 and 2.45 and
of the latest excavations, led by members of the City Council's
Archaeological Service, at 11.00 and 2.00.
There will also be demonstrations of archaeological planning techniques and
a variety of children's activities. Chester History and Heritage will be
making available a selection of old maps and documents relevant to the area.
Visitors are also welcome at the Chester Archaeological Society's excavation
at the Roman roadside settlelement at Heronbridge, just outside Chester, on
Saturday and Sunday, 19-20 July, 2.00-5.00 pm. The site can be reached by
walking along the west bank of the Dee from either Chester or Eccleston (no
parking near the site).
