Annual Conference, Winchester - "The Archaeology of Church Interiors"
Friday 19th - Sunday 21st September 2003
This year's conference will be held at Pilgrims' Hall, Pilgrims' School,
Winchester Cathedral Close.
The weekend will commence with a tour of the cathedral close on Friday
afternoon followed by Evensong, a reception in the Prior's Hall courtesy of
the Dean and a tour of the cathedral library and gallery. The Society's AGM
on Saturday morning will precede a fascinating line up of speakers,
including Professor Martin Biddle. There will be the opportunity to visit
St.Cross Hospital Chapel in the afternoon and also to attend the conference
dinner at Winchester Guildhall in the evening. A field trip has been
arranged for the Sunday and will include a visit to the church at Hursley,
associated with John Keble, and will include internal access to the
Heathcote family mausoleum within the churchyard. The afternoon tour of
Romsey Abbey and the adjacent King John's House and garden will be led by
Frank Green, archaeological advisor to the Abbey for over 20 years.
