Part-time teaching opportunity within the School of Continuing Education, at The University of Reading.
I am looking for someone to teach a module on the Certificate of Higher Education in Archaeology, covering the Post Roman and Medieval period. This is the fourth module of a two-year part-time course which also covers an introduction to Prehistoric and Roman Archaeology.
The post involves teaching a 20 credit level C (ie. first year undergraduate) module to part-time/mature students on a Tuesday evening (7.00 - 9.30pm), for 10 sessions in the Spring term, with 2 sessions for revision in the early summer term. The module also involves leading one fieldtrip to an appropriate location. Teaching is paid at a rate of £25.75 per hour.
In addition to the teaching the person holding this post would set and mark 2 assignments, set and mark one (3hour) examination paper and hold one 30min tutorial with each student. For this work payment is made on the basis of a per capita payment per student, but usually works out at a lump sum payment of c. £500.
The post holder would be free to design the structure of the course, provided it covered the main points of the syllabus (I can send anyone who is interested a syllabus by attachment), as well as devise appropriate assessment mechanisms.
It is the ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to gain some (further) teaching experience and lives within commuting distance of Reading. We will cover travel expenses up to a certain level.
If you know anyone who may be interested in this opportunity please forward this to them and ask them to get in touch with me ASAP.
