I think your unfortunate re the male dominance of societies in your area.
Our county society has a woman chairman and 7 of the 12 committee members
are also women. Our field group was run by women for nearly 15 years and
women are active at all levels within the society. We even try to ensure
that a good proportion of our lectures are given by women (our programme
organiser is a woman)
I am involved in other local groups and those too have men and women working
equally at all levels. I think you must be unfortunate in where you live (or
I am fortunate)
