International Conference on Principles and Practice of
Constraint Programming (CP2003) - Kinsale,County Cork, Ireland
WORKSHOP on IMMEDIATE APPLICATIONS of CONSTRAINT PROGRAMMING
**** submission deadline is July 25th, 2003 ****

THEME:
------
Constraint Satisfaction is a successful paradigm that can be used for
developing general techniques to be applied to any satisfaction problem,
namely combinatorial problems where any combination of decisions
satisfying a set of constraints is acceptable as a solution.
It is known that different tricks and techniques allow for many other
types of problems to be addressed with methods imported from Constraint
Satisfaction. We mainly think about optimization problems and
overconstrained problems. Constraint Satisfaction Problems are also more
or less independent subparts of very large or even intricate problems.
The workshop addresses modeling and techniques in immediate industrial
applications of Constraint Satisfaction. Application areas include but
are not limited to computer graphics and computer vision, natural
language processing, database systems, operations research, engineering,
bioinformatics as well as business applications (e.g. configuration,
recommender systems, user interaction, planning & scheduling, resource
management). In this context scientific issues to be discussed at the
workshop include:
* techniques for helping the modeling of real problems
* applications of centralized CSPs
* extended frameworks needed for addressing real issues
* working algorithms for solving real CSP applications
* distributed CSPs and their applications
* privacy issues in CSPs
* tools that proved their successful applicability
The continuous technical advances in CSPs lead to a technology that fits
more and more real applications. This workshop will provide an
opportunity for researchers to continue progress towards a common
understanding as well as to present successful applications in practice.

PROCEEDINGS
-----------
As for the main conference authors are requested to prepare their papers
by following the Springer instructions. Workshop papers will be
published in workshop notes as well as on the Web. If enough
high-quality papers are submitted, the organizers intent to publish
revised versions of the best papers in a special issue of a journal.

REGISTRATION
------------
Registration for the Applications of Constraint Programming workshop is
possible for all participants of the CP-2003 conference. Authors of
(accepted) papers are given priority, then the participants are accepted
in the order in which they have expressed their interest.
