The guidance about being available when on call- sometimes implied at being
within 10 miles/ 15 (or sometimes) 20 minutes- although the only part I've
seen written down as a rule is living within 10 miles of the hospital. And
even that usually as an essential to be willing to do it in the personal
spec for the job rather than a requirement to actually do it.

The explanation from BAEM was that full time did not specify the number of
NHDs. Max part time contracts specified 10 NHDs and also that they were for
the same amount of work as whole time contracts. Hence whole time= 10 NHDs
not 11.
>And what does notional mean in respect of NHDs.
A NHD is not always a half day of work. For example, you might get 1 NHD for
being on call- maybe 30 or 40 hours a week on average; maybe less that an
hour a week actually working on average. So not an actual half day of work,
but counted as equivalent. Hence notional.
I don't think anyone actually knows what the current contract contracts us
to do- the point has often been made that the number of NHDs allocated for
on call correlates poorly with its frequency or intensity for instance. The
BMA guidance on using the current contract may be useful.
