> General
> The Centre for Irish-German Studies at the University of Limerick intends
> to fill a one year postgraduate research bursary in the area of Exile
> Studies. The successful applicant will be required to pursue a Masters or
> PhD degree by research and to undertake administrative duties (of six
> hours per week) connected with the research project.

> The value of the bursary is 3,000 Euro plus fee remission per annum, an
> extension might be possible. Continuation of the stipend and fee waiver
> into year two and year three is conditional on further research support
> and on satisfactory progress.

> The standard provisions governing admission to, progression in and conduct
> during research degrees in the College of Humanities apply to these
> scholarships. For further details see the College of Humanities
> Postgraduate Research Prospectus and Handbook 2001-2003 and the University
> Postgraduate Regulations.

> Applications will be considered on the basis of academic performance to
> date (including references), suitability for admission to a postgraduate
> research degree in the College of Humanities at the University of Limerick
> and the contents of the research proposal. Accordingly, applicants who are
> not already registered for a postgraduate research degree in the College
> of Humanities must submit:
> * A completed application for a postgraduate research degree, and the
> research proposal. Application forms can be obtained on request from the

> * A CV of their academic career to date (if sitting final year exams,
> give realistic estimate of anticipated level of degree award based on
> performance to date)
> * Any further information which supports the applicant's capacity to
> pursue the proposed research

> It is strongly recommended that intending applicants should make contact
> with Dr Gisela Holfter for their research degree in the College of
> Humanities with a view to developing a suitable research proposal.

> Applicants who are not already registered for a postgraduate research
> degree at the University of Limerick are advised that their application
> for a scholarship cannot be considered unless it satisfies the College and
> University requirements for admission to the postgraduate research degree.
> As part of the Admissions procedure the College will take up references
> from the two academic referees named by the applicant on the application
> form for the postgraduate research degree. If the applicant's references
> are not received before the date on which the scholarship applications are
> considered then the applicant cannot be considered for a scholarship. To
> minimise this risk intending applicants should advise their referees of
> their intention to apply for a bursary and to pursue a research degree at
> the College of Humanities in the University of Limerick and the likelihood
> that the College of Humanities will request a reference with short notice.
