Michael,
I'd say its the extraction of tallow and oils from animal remains (my boss
recalls Cows foot Oil!). There's some info about possible processes in the
DoE profile on 'Animal and animal products processing works'. It may not
have had the rendering process on site and only blended the tallows and
oils, an example in Runcorn did so for coating sails (red sails used pigs
blood as the colouring, nice!).
Hope this helps,

Subject: Oil and Tallow works
Hello everyone,
After examining historical maps in our borough in relation to a
environmental enquiry a industry recorded as a "Oil and Tallow Works", no
further details but it existed from approximately 1890 until the WWII
period.
Anybody have anything similar in their area, if so do you know its function
and what processes were undertaken ?
Regards
Michael Moore
