Thanks for all the links Mike ...
The point is ... without wishing to be rude .. but we have seen Reports,
Profiles, Forums, Sub Committees, Consultations, and many people working
hard to address issues over the past 15 years - but I have yet to hear of
one actual concrete move forward. Training? Pay scales? Recognised
Chartered Status? etc etc. Things move slow .. perhaps I am being unfair
... perhaps I am asking for things to move at a pace that would not prepare
for unexpected future problems. But to me the time for 'Jaw-Jaw' is over. I
see simple solutions. Naive? But just how long does it take to achieve
chartered status? Just how long does it take to work out a standard
payscale? How long does it take to say 'this job title' = x
responsibilities while 'that job title' = y responsibilities
None of this is intended as a critisism of any work that is going on just
now - I would just like to hear good news about archaeology for a change!
(and a change that will happen this decade)
