An international archaeological project seeks four trainee archaeologists to join a fieldwork-based research project at the Centre archéologique européen du mont Beuvray in Burgundy, France. A team of archaeologists from the UK, France and the Netherlands will be working together to develop new approaches to training within the profession. This project is being promoted by English Heritage and is funded by the Leonardo da Vinci II programme of the European Commission.
Applicants for these posts should be starting or at an early stage in their archaeological career and be seeking to develop their practical skills through fieldwork training in a stimulating working environment.
The trainees will be required to work for a period of four weeks from 9 June to 4 July 2003. Candidates for these positions must be able to demonstrate a professional level of commitment and a willingness to participate in an innovative forum combining hands-on experience with active input into training development.
For this work, the Trainee Archaeologists will be paid a sum of €1575. Accommodation and subsistence on the project will also be provided, as will return travel from the UK.
The official language of the project will be English, but to have some spoken French would be an advantage. Membership of the IFA, whether as student, affiliate or Practitioner would also be advantageous.
To apply, please send a c.v. and cover letter to Kenneth Aitchison, IFA Head of Training and Standards at IFA, University of Reading, PO Box 239, 2 Earley Gate, Reading RG6 6AU or [log in to unmask]
