KINGSTON UNIVERSITY AND ST GEORGE’S HOSPITAL MEDICAL SCHOOL
FACULTY OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE SCIENCES
PhD Studentships
Kingston University and St George’s Hospital Medical School invite
applications for three full time PhD studentships from October 2003.
Each studentship is made up of the Home tuition fee and a bursary of
£12,500 for each year of the programme. These studentships are open to
health and social care professionals and/or graduates who hold, or
expect to hold, a first degree in a relevant subject (1st class or 2:1).
Research will be undertaken in the following project areas.
1.Cultures of Ageing: Generational Patterns of Health and Social Change
Supervisor: Professor Ian Rees Jones.
You will be expected to have a good knowledge of sociology and some
relevant research experience in the use of survey data sets.
2. Mood and Food: An investigation into relationships between depression
and nutritional status post stroke
Supervisor: Professor Susan McLaren
You will be expected to have a good knowledge in the health sciences or
a related discipline.
3. Developing new interdisciplinary research in relation to children and
their consent to, or refusal of, treatment
Supervisor: Dr Lorna Bell
You will be expected to have a good knowledge of health or social care
interventions and some relevant experience in qualitative research.
