Hello All,
I would like to ask a favour of those of you with working EDG testbed
installations, which is to allow me to run a few JETWEB jobs on your CEs.
I'll tell you what I would need you to do at the end of this mail, but
first a few words of explanation.
At the moment this is more a proof of principle than a means of full-scale
production, so you wouldn't be signing up to anything more than a handful
of jobs over the next few days. (But anyone who would like to help in the
longer term would be very welcome!) The jobs are quite CPU intensive,
taking from a couple of hours to a day or more on a 1GHz processor, but
total i/o is only a few MB. They are MC generation jobs which fill
histograms and send the results back to a database so that they can be
compared with data from a variety of experiments. See
<jetweb.hep.ucl.ac.uk> for more information.
John Gordon is also keen to see this work, as evidence that the Grid
(GridPP/EDG) can be used not only by large collaborations but by smaller
"independent" groups. (Please correct me if I've not got that quite right,
John.)
You would not need to install any software on your CE as JETWEB brings its
own statically linked executable. However, if you are willing to take part
you should add "JETWEB" to your list of RunTimeEnvironment flags, and make
sure that I am in your grid-mapfile. My certificate subject is
"/O=Grid/O=UKHEP/OU=hep.ucl.ac.uk/CN=Ben Waugh" and I am in the GridPP VO
so I may already be included.
If you have any questions, please e-mail me.
Cheers,
Ben
