medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I have recently been undertaking research on a small church in York (All
Saints Peaseholme Green) The church has long since been demolished but
during archaeological excavations two papal bulls were discovered
associated with burials. The earliest was dated to Pope Urban III (1185-
1187), the second to a Pope Clement (number illegible).
Do Papal archives exist that might throw light on who the burials are?
A secondary, and much larger, question follows on: is there anywhere on the
web or printed (preferably in English) which gives a good overview of the
archives, with particular reference to Medieval England?
