Announcing the Centre for Evidence-Based Child Health training programme in
evidence-based practice:
HOW TO PRACTISE EVIDENCE-BASED CARE FOR CHILDREN
28-30TH MAY 2003
This introductory course is aimed at ALL practitioners, researchers and
managers from health and social care who wish to learn how to use the best
available evidence in their clinical and policy decisions.
The course consists of plenary seminars, small group problem-solving and
appraisal sessions and practicals on searching the literature to support
evidence-based practice. Key features include learning based on small
multi-professional groups, a pre-course study pack, a high tutor-student
ratio and opportunities for hands on searching of a variety of electronic
evidence-based resources with tutor support. Examples relevant to the care
of children will be used throughout the course.
EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE WORKSHOP - BEYOND THE BASICS
3-5th December 2003
This workshop is suitable for practitioners from ALL areas of health and
social care who have prior experience of applying evidence-based principles
to practice. It is particularly useful for practitioners responsible for
developing guidelines or care pathways and tutors of evidence-based
practice. The workshop aims to improve practitioners' appraisal skills and
will focus on how to take account of uncertainty posed by the evidence
available, patient preferences and values. Teaching will be based on
examples drawn from primary and secondary care and social services. Tutors
include:
Ruth Gilbert, Director of the Centre for Evidence-Based Child Health
Stuart Logan, Professor of Paediatric Epidemiology and Director, Institute
of Health and Social Care Research, Peninsula Medical School.
Paul Glasziou, Director of the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine
Both courses will take place at the Institute of Child Health in London.
