ESRC Collaborative (Case) Studentships 2003
Applications are invited for the following PhD studentships.
Staying Together: an exploration of longer term marriage
partnerships in differing socio-economic circumstances
Funded by ESRC and Care for the Family (CFF), this qualitative study
will explore the nature of longer term marriages, in differing
socio-economic circumstances, from the perspectives of both partners. The
student will be expected to engage with CFF during the studentship.
Applicants should have, or expect to gain, an upper second or first class
honours degree in a relevant social science discipline. Candidates with a
substantial research component in their undergraduate degrees, with research
experience, or who are undertaking or have completed an ESRC recognised
research training Masters course will be at an advantage. This studentship
is being offered on either a three or four year basis depending on level of
research training already achieved. The normal ESRC grant will apply, with a
supplement of £2500 p.a. Interviews will be held on 8th May 2003.
Family Policy in Scotland: a case study of partnership and joined up
government in a devolved context
Funded by ESRC and a consortium of family support voluntary
organisations led by Couple Counselling Scotland, the broad aim of this
research is to trace the evolution and processes of devolved and reserved
family policies in Scotland, and identify where and how policy agendas are
set. It will explore whether the distinctive committee organisation of the
Parliament and lines of responsibility in the Executive lead to a more
explicit and integrated approach to family policy. Applicants should have,
or expect to gain, an upper second or first class honours degree in a
relevant social science discipline. Applicants should have a substantial
research component in their undergraduate degrees, with research experience,
or be undertaking or have completed an ESRC recognised research training
Masters course. This studentship is being offered on a three year basis. The
normal ESRC grant will apply, with a supplement of £1450 p.a. Interviews
will be held on 9th May 2003.
For both studentships please apply with a CV, the names of two
referees, and a statement of application which makes clear why you are
interested in the project, and what skills, attributes and understanding you
are likely to bring to it. Applications should arrive by 22nd April 2003.
