> The ESRC/JISC Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) is
currently seeking to recruit a Senior Qualitative Data Resources
Officer for the Qualitative Data Service (Qualidata), hosted at
the UK Data Archive at the University of Essex. The aims of this
post are to assist in the development of a framework,
methodology and tools for providing online access to enhanced
archived qualitative data resources. The post-holder will be
expected to work closely with social science researchers,
teachers and technical experts, to engage in a programme of
evaluation and usability testing, and to ensure that high
quality documentation of the resources, tools and services is
produced. They will be expected to both promote and provide
training on the use, and the secondary analytic potential, of
the newly created qualitative data resources.

> The successful candidate must be able to
demonstrate proficiency in undertaking qualitative research and
in data analysis strategies. Some experience of teaching
qualitative methods is essential as is an understanding of the
needs of the academic community with regards to the provision of
training in the areas of qualitative data analysis and relevant
IT applications.

> Candidates should posses a post-graduate qualification in the
social sciences, have excellent computing skills and demonstrate
a proficiency using MS Office Professional, the Internet and
Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS).
Knowledge of web technologies, including XML/SGML would be
highly advantageous, as would an understanding of digitisation
technologies. The post holder would further benefit from having
practical experience of creating or supporting digital research
resources. Candidates must be self-motivated, well organised,
and have excellent interpersonal and report-writing skills. The
ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team is
essential.
