Hegelian Philosophy – A Renaissance?
Graduate Conference on the Philosophy of G.W.F. Hegel and its legacy
Department of Philosophy, University of Sheffield
8th March 2003
Invited speaker: Dr. Michael Rosen, Lincoln College, Oxford
Over the last three decades, Hegelian Philosophy has enjoyed increased
attention. Not only has Hegel scholarship been revived through a number
of influential studies, but a wide range of thinkers and schools of
thought have drawn their inspiration from his philosophy. This makes a
conference on Hegelian philosophy particular timely.
This one-day conference hopes to provide a forum to bring postgraduates
together interested in the many developments of Hegel’s philosophy in a
number of fields such as aesthetics, legal theory, metaphysics,
philosophy of history, philosophy of language and political philosophy.
In particular, we are interested in contribution of Hegel’s philosophy
to contemporary debates.
The conference will commence with an address by Dr Michael Rosen, who
is the author of numerous articles and books including *Hegel’s
Dialectic and its Criticism* and *On Voluntary Servitude*. He will talk
on ‘The Idealist Concept of Freedom’. This will be followed by several
presentations by postgraduates. Each postgraduate will have an hour for
presentation and discussion. Attendance will be free of charge; all are
encouraged to register by February 28th, 2003, using the registration
form below. Participants not giving papers are most welcome to attend.
