Larry,
I agree, a lot of people are in the criminal justice system, because of
inequalities in education and distribution of wealth, but aren't many in the
system because they are neuro diverse, by degree. Isn't this why many
neuro diverse individuals drop out of school, or at worst (or is it best)
never get in! because they don't 'fit in' such mainstream, oppressive,
educational systems and for some, it's a very different and logical journey
for them.
Colin, as requested, I have posted to you Judy Singers article 'why can't you
be normal for once in your life'? from a problem with no name to the
emergence of a new category of difference. She writes about positively
claiming the label neuro diversity within a 'disability rights' framework.
(thanks Tom for the ref). If you, Larry or anyone is interested in buying
'the book' which it comes from, it's called Disability Discourse by Mairian
Corker and Sally French, (editors) published by OU Press (1999).
Unity is Strength!!!
Liz
