Claire,
I was interested to hear of your experiences using CAIRS. Gloucestershire
Record Office has been using this for its records management operation since
1996 (we found that that the RM software was further developed than the
Archives side at the time of purchase). Apart from a few tweaks to the
original spec. the system has worked well for us, although we have now run
into a few problems concerning long-term support by the company which we are
trying to resolve. The Archives side of the operation are now using CALM.I
would also be interested to hear views on the CALM RM system since we would
not be averse to change as the service is undergoing restructuring to take
into account new FOI,DP and ERM responsibilities.
It would seem that we both need to talk to Colin!

That's very interesting that you are using CALM, we did adopt CAIRS for the
whole of Cumbria Archive Service (historical and RM) but whilst the
historical side has been quite well developed (but not yet complete) the RM
side has been proved to be wholly unsuitable for the job in hand. We have
been left to source possible replacements on our own - something that
without time/knowledge is a pretty impossible task.
Would be interested to talk to Colin when he gets back?!
Regards
Claire
