One of our users is interested in tracing a copy of a
curling map of Scotland published by the Royal Caledonian
Curling Club in 1850. He does not have a title, but the
minutes of the Club give details of the progress of the
publication.
1848 <...the Curling Map... is being prepared by their
indefatigable Brother Curler Mr Palmer...> [Mr Palmer was a
schoolmaster in Penicuik, Midlothian].
1849 < ...the map is now completed in a style which reflects
the utmost credit upon Messrs Palmer and Forrester...
...remuneration to Mr Lizars [engraver]... 500 copies to be
thrown off...>
1850 <The Curling Map is now ready for distribution...mainly
based on the Travelling Map of Scotland, lately published by
Messrs A & C Black, Edinburgh...
...the map contains the towns, railways, roads, ponds,&c and
has on the margin an alphabetical list of all the Associated
Clubs
....>
1851 <...351 copies sold...>
Copies are known to have been sold to the curling clubs at
Jedburgh and Kilmarnock.
Does anyone know of any surviving copies of this map?
Thank you
