the excavator then puts it in a skip round the back.
If material is to be disposed of, then it should go into recognised
landfill sites - dumping it into wells or other features risks it being
rediscovered in the future and invalid inferences being drawn regarding its
origin and significance.
Does the museum in question have an explicit policy on dumping
archaeological material and is this policy approved of by the local
archaeological curators (who preseumably write depostion with the museum
into project briefs)?
