Experience before HST achieves similar aims, Cliff. I did seven-and-a-half
years (post-qualification) before commencing my HST, including some
reg-level experience in surgery and a year's anaesthetics, and I don't
regret any of it. I agree, the modern trend of rushing into HST a few years
out of med school is not entirely healthy. While emergency physicians tend
to be generalists by nature, it does help if we can take on some things in a
little more depth from time to time.
